Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is the busiest airport in the region, serving over 27 million passengers each year. Located just 9 miles south of downtown Baltimore and 32 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., BWI has recently announced major upgrades to enhance the passenger experience with its largest terminal project in history. With more than 650 domestic and international flight operations daily, travelers can also take advantage of a convenient access to the terminal via the Cell Phone Lot located near I-195 and MD 170.
Major Upgrades at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport
The Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Aviation Administration have approved $125 million for major upgrades at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. This is the largest terminal project in the airport’s history and will include:
- Renovations to Concourse A-West
- New security checkpoint lanes
- Additional seating areas
- Expanded concessions
- Updated baggage handling systems
- A new central utility plant
Enhance Passenger Experience with Largest Terminal Project
The goal of these upgrades is to improve the overall passenger experience by providing more efficient check-in processes, improved amenities, and better service. The renovations are expected to be completed by 2020 and will help create an atmosphere that is both comfortable and secure.
Convenient Access to the Terminal via Cell Phone Lot
In addition to the major upgrades, BWI offers a convenient way to access the terminal with its Cell Phone Lot. Located near I-195 and MD 170, this lot allows drivers to wait for arriving passengers without having to park in the main parking lots. It features free parking for up to two hours, as well as restrooms and vending machines.
