Named after Maharani Ahilyabai, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is better known as Indore Airport and is situated in its namesake city. The airport is the busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh and ranks 20th amongst the busiest airports in the country. It was adjudged as the best airport in under 20 lakh (2 million) annual passenger footfall category in Asia-Pacific region in the Airports Council International (ACI)'s airport service quality (ASQ). The international airport was inaugurated recently in 2012 and has airlines – Silk Air, Air Arabia, Indian Airlines and Air India Express flights operational to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Sharjah.
History of the Airport
The Airfield is equipped with Night Landing Facilities and a CAT- 1 Instrument Landing System (ILS) (on Runway 25 only) as well as Navigational facilities like DVOR/DME and an NDB. It started operations from 1946 when it began as a small runway located at Race Course Road. In 1975, the Civil Aviation Department took over the administration of the airport and later on, in 2005, the AAI took control of the same.

Recent Inauguration in 2012
In 2012, the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport was renovated and expanded. A brand new terminal building was inaugurated and the capacity of the airport was increased by three times. This renovation improved the airside and landside infrastructure, enhanced the cargo handling facility, upgraded the security systems and provided world-class passenger services.
