Ayodhya Airport, officially known as Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport, is an under-construction international airport which will serve the city of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The Government changed the name of the airport after Lord Shri Ram in 2021 to honor his legacy and recognize the resolution of the Ayodhya title dispute.
Location of Airport
The airport is located adjacent to NH-27 and NH-330 at Faizabad. It is connected to Rajasthan, Delhi and other parts of Uttar Pradesh by bus and rail services.
Renaming to Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport
In 2021, the Government of India announced that it would rename the Ayodhya Airport to Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport to honor the legacy of Lord Shri Ram and mark the resolution of the Ayodhya title dispute.
Construction Status
As per sources, the construction of the airport is expected to be completed by December 2021. This new airport will have a 3,000 meter runway, passenger terminal building, control tower, cargo complex and hangars for private jets.
Ayodhya Title Dispute Resolution
It was in November 2019 that the Supreme Court of India ruled that the disputed site in the temple city belongs to Hindus. The court also set up a trust to oversee the temple construction. The resolution of this long standing dispute has come as a relief to many and is seen as a major step towards peace and harmony in the region.
